The Liberation Group has reached the final of the Regional Brewer of the Year Award, alongside some of the best-known family brewers in the UK. The UK’s most southerly brewery, which produces the award-winning Liberation Ale, will compete for the coveted Publican Award at a gala ceremony in London in April. The nomination is a major achievement for the business, which has enjoyed phenomenal success since it was bought by the Liberation Group in 2008.
Chief Executive Officer of the Liberation Group Mark Crowther said: “We are thrilled at reaching the final of these huge industry awards which are the ‘Oscars’ of the pub world. Winning a Publican Award is one of the highest possible accolades and to be shortlisted alongside brewing giants like Fullers and St Austell Brewery is an achievement in itself. I would like to thank the entire Liberation Group team who have all helped make this happen.”
One of the judges of the Publican Awards was in Jersey yesterday to visit the brewery and a selection of the Liberation Group pubs. The Group currently owns 67 pubs and restaurants in the Channel Islands. The other four companies to reach the final are Fuller’s in London, Wells and Young’s in Bedford, Hook Norton in Oxfordshire and the current title holders St Austell in Cornwall.
The Publican is a weekly magazine which is produced for the licensed trade and has run the prestigious awards since 1992. More than 1500 people will attend the awards night on 21st April at The Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.
The Regional Brewer of the Year award recognises brewing excellence and particular emphasis is placed on the production of beer from brewery to glass. The Jersey Brewery expert brewing team is led by Paul Hurley and Patrick Dean, who combined have 40 years experience in the business.
Paul Hurley said: “We are delighted our achievements have been recognised in this way and are keeping our fingers crossed for more good news! Real ale is a growth industry and it is great for our customers, both locals and visitors, to know they can enjoy a premium quality product which is made in Jersey.”
Last May saw the highly-successful launch of Liberation Ale, a cask-conditioned real ale which has since been launched in bottles and is due to be exported to the UK in the coming months. The beer was named Champion Beer at the CAMRA Jersey Beer Festival and Best Brand Campaign for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Awards 2009.
